R. LEE EARMY (Gsgt USMC RET. 1944-2018); RIP AND MAY FLIGHTS OF ANGELS SING YOU TO YOUR REST

This past Sunday an American icon passed away to claim his heavenly reward for his honest and faithful service to his God and country.

Much of his service was spent as a Drill Instructor with the United States Marine Corps. He portrayed such a DI in the Stanley Kubrick movie "Full Metal Jacket".  He seemed in that role to be a compleat asshole. But - as he later explained - the reason that DIs and other basic training instructors in the various branches of our military behave as they do is to instill new enlistees with the skills and coping mechanisms they may well need to live through what may well be the worst experiences of their lives.

In his private life R. Lee Earmy was as tender and loving a man as any ever was. His tough-as-nails exterior was not fake, however. The same hands that could tousle the hair of an innocent little boy were very capable of killing an enemy who would threaten that kid in any way.

We have no doubt that elements of America's enemies are celebrating the death of R. Lee. Unfortunately for them his career was spent instilling generations of other men with his values. R. Lee Earmy did not die. He is with us in the persons of the young men he trained and those who were trained by his protoge's.  And some of these will perform the same office as did he. Do not expect the American soldier and patriot to die off anytime soon.

Thank you, Gunny; and enjoy your rest. SEMPER FIDELIS.
